Accessibility

This online portal is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AAA wherever the criteria apply to a website like this one, and at least Level AA everywhere. You can complete every step with a keyboard alone, with a screen reader, on a phone, and at high zoom.

Using the portal

  • Press Tab to move between fields and buttons. The first Tab stop on each page is a Skip to main content link.
  • Each step has a heading that is read out when the step changes, and problems with a form are listed and read out when you continue.
  • Required fields are marked with an asterisk. Your contact details are carried forward so you do not have to type them twice.
  • The site warns you two minutes before your session expires and lets you continue without losing your cart.
  • Text and buttons meet the enhanced 7:1 contrast ratio, every button and field is at least 44 pixels tall, and the layout reflows to narrow screens and 400 percent zoom.
  • The payment method is applied only when you select Continue, and if your session times out your cart is kept for 24 hours so you can pick up where you left off.
  • The glossary explains every term and abbreviation used on the site, and the page footer names the town office to contact.

Known limitations

  • Receipts and permits delivered as PDF files are not tagged for screen readers. The same information is shown on screen and in your confirmation email.
  • Card entry frames supplied by the payment processor follow the processor's own accessibility support.
  • The automated bot check runs without a visible puzzle; if it cannot verify your browser, contact the town office listed on this site to complete your order.
  • The card entry form and the bot check use security tokens that expire on their providers' schedules; if the payment step sits idle for a long time, reload it to continue.
